Box Score 2 The College at Brockport Baseball team recovered just in time to pull out a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win against Fredonia Tuesday evening after it dropped game one of a doubleheader. Jeffrey Prouse (Eden, ONT/Glendale) pitched a perfect eighth and ninth inning to close out a solid start from Zack Lander (Rochester, NY/Churchville-Chili) as the Golden Eagles utilized a three run seventh inning to win 4-3 in game two.
Brockport (15-14, 7-8 SUNYAC) jumped out to a one run lead after the first inning of play, just as it had in game one. However the Golden Eagles fell behind after two home runs triggered a three run sixth inning for the Blue Devils.
As the team trailed 3-1 and was looking at getting swept by the conference rival, the Golden Eagles quickly responded with a rally of their own immediately following Fredonia's big inning in game two. Sean Geisel (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) led the inning off and reached base on an error by the Blue Devil shortstop, before being replaced by pinch runner Dan D'Eletto (Walworth, NY/Wayne).
Eli Carrera (Rochester, NY/Franklin) singled and advanced to second as the fielder tried to get D'Eletto at third base. With two runners in scoring position and his team trailing by two, Jack Wallwork (Geneva, NY/Geneva) left no doubt about tying the game as he doubled to knock in both Carrera and D'Eletto.
Two batters later, leadoff hitter Greg Ruddy (Troy, NY/Troy) showed no signs of panic when he singled to knock in Wallwork and give Brockport the lead.
Prouse entered the game the following inning and mowed threw the Fredonia batters striking out two in his two innings of relief. He picked up the first save of his Golden Eagle career, while Lander added to his excellent record with his fifth victory of the season. Lander pitched seven strong innings, holding the Blue Devils scoreless through six innings.
Wesley Burghardt (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) and Ruddy both had two hits apiece while also driving in a run.
In game one Brockport jumped out to an early lead with a run in both the first and second inning. Anthony Barbetto (New City, NY/Clarkstown) hit a one out single before scoring on a single from Burghardt in the first inning.
In the second inning, Jake Kenney (Hornell, NY/Alfred-Almond) singled to start before advancing to second base on a wild pitch. Two batters later Brett Sanders (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) singled him in to give Brockport the 2-0 lead that it held through the fourth inning.
Dakota Stackhouse (Warsaw, NY/Warsaw) pitched a quality game throwing all seven innings while only giving up three runs off of five hits and one walk while also striking out five Blue Devils.
The Golden Eagles have a single game scheduled on the road against RIT on Thursday  at 4 pm and return home for a three game SUNYAC series with New Paltz on Friday and Saturday, including senior day on Saturday's doubleheader.
