BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The No. 16 ranked College at Brockport wrestling team continued to roll on Tuesday night, moving to 5-0 on the season with a dominant 46-5 victory over Alfred State. This was Brockport's final home dual of the season, and its six seniors were honored before the match for their outstanding contributions to the Brockport wrestling program.
The Golden Eagles have now guaranteed themselves a winning record in 2017-18, marking the 48th consecutive winning season for head coach
Don Murray, and the 55th straight for the Golden Eagle wrestling program.
No. 1 ranked
Jonathan Haas got things started with a dominant 22-6 technical fall victory at 125, continuously taking down Alfred's Patrick Lehman to earn five early points for the team.
After
Dillon Stowell won by forfeit in the 133-lb weight class,
Zack Barker went to work for Brockport, also winning by technical fall 17-0 to put the team up 16-0.
Mark Hitchcock kept things rolling at 149, using some late strength to pin his opponent in 6:15.
Things got a little tighter at 157, but
Sean O'Hagan wrestled expertly, using a second round takedown to defeat Alfred State's Mike Galton. After taking home third place in last weekend's Empire Collegiate Wrestling Tournament,
Jackson Bell had another strong outing at 165, winning by a 10-2 major decision to keep Alfred State off the board.
Richard Mills put Brockport up 35-0 with his pin at 174, using just 2:17 to win by fall in the opening round. The Pioneers finally got on the board with a tech fall win at 184, but Brockport bounced back, winning the final two bouts of the day.
No. 9 ranked
Triston Engle moved to 22-3 on the season with his victory by fall in 1:17, before
Austin Dean closed things out with fourth technical fall of the day for Brockport, winning 19-2 in the third period.
Brockport will hit the road this weekend, traveling to Worcester, Mass. for the WPI Duals.
