BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Head Brockport wrestling coach
Don Murray has been honored by the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) as Coach of the Year. This is the seventh time Coach Murray has been named either the SUNYAC of Empire Coach of the Year (1981, 1983, 1986, 1989, 1991, 2003, 2017).
Coach Murray would like to thank his assistant coach Bill Jacatout and the rest of his staff for their dedication to the program. Without their contributions, the program would not be where it is today.
2017 marked the 47th consecutive winning season for Brockport wrestling under Coach Murray's watch. The team went 6-1 in dual meets, with the only loss coming to No. 3 ranked Johnson and Wales University.
The team ended up finishing fifth in the regional tournament, and eighth at nationals with two wrestlers in
Jonathan Haas and
Triston Engle earning All-America status. Six other wrestlers also earned post-season awards with ECWC All-Academic team selections.
Coach Murray now has a dual meet record of 327-77-7, has coached 138 All-Americans and 150 SUNYAC/Empire champions, and finished in the top-ten at the NCAA tournament 28 times.
