BALTIMORE, Md. – The College at Brockport women's gymnastics team had their final regular season meet on Sunday, a tussle with NCAA Division I programs Towson University and Cornell University.
The Golden Eagles held their own, with the host Tigers taking the meet with a team score of 194.625 and the Bears finishing second with a team score of 193.500. The Green and Gold notched a team score of 192.425.
Posting their highest score of the meet, Brockport scored a 48.775 on the floor with strong performances all around.
Candis Kowalik,
Jen Sklenar and
Brittany Vasile all finished in a tie for ninth, each scoring a 9.775.
Bridgette Schaal and
Taylor Keough also tied, placing 14th, with routines scoring 9.725.
The Green and Gold kept things rolling, posting their second highest mark on the vault, a 48.150.
Stephanie Mager scored the best of the meet, snagging a first place finish in the event with a vault of 9.775. The strong vaults kept coming, as Schaal (9.650) took sixth, Kowalik (9.625) took seventh, Vasile (9.550) took 10th and Sklenar (9.525) placed 13th in the event.
Head coach
John Feeney's squad had strong performances on the remaining two events, turning in a team score of 47.975 on the beam and a 47.525 on the uneven bars. On the beam, Kowalik and
Erica Roth led the way, tying for sixth with a pair of 9.750's. Sklenar took ninth in the event, with a 9.725 while Keough finished in 12th with a 9.625.
On the bars,
Marla Thomas was the Green and Gold's top performer, with a 9.575 earning ninth place.
Allison Hester and
Maddie O'Braitis finished in a tie for 11th, with scores of 9.525, while
Caitlin Elsadek (9.475) took 14th,
Meghan Cash (9.425) placed 15th and Sklenar (9.375) finished in 16th place.
Sklenar continued her strong showing as an all-around competitor, with her all-around score of 38.400 earning her fourth place overall in the meet.
With the regular season complete, the Golden Eagles now set their sights on post-season action, with the first stop, the NCGA East Regional Qualifier. Brockport will serve as hosts of the March 19 meet, where they will welcome Ursinus College, Ithaca College, Rhode Island College, SUNY Cortland, and Springfield College with the meet set to start at noon.
