BROCKPORT, N.Y. – Jonathan Haas of the wrestling team has been named the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC) wrestler of the week for the week ending February 5, 2017. This is the second time this season the junior has been recognized by the conference.
 
Haas earned three more wins this week at the John Summa Invitational in Berea, Ohio, winning the 125-lb weight class. After earning the top seed and an opening round bye, he wrestled his way to an easy first place finish, beating his first two opponents by technical fall before a 12-9 decision win over Nick Berry of host Baldwin Wallace in the finals. The Spencerport, N.Y. native is now 21-1 on the season, and is ranked ninth in the country at 125.
 
Haas was ranked ninth in the country in the last National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) poll, and has the potential to move up after his three wins this week.
 
Wrestling has one more regular-season contest at home against University of Scranton at 2:30 on Friday before heading to York, Pa. for the Mideast Wrestling Regionals on February 25.
