Wrestling Finishes Fourth At John Summa Invitational

BEREA, Ohio – The No. 15 Brockport wrestling team put together a solid all-around performance on Saturday at the annual John Summa Invitational, placing a wrestler in the top-five of half the weight classes on the day. The team finished fourth out of the thirteen teams that attended, earning 108 points on the day.

Jonathan Haas, who is the ninth ranked wrestler in the nation at 125-lb, is now 21-1 on the season after earning yet another tournament win. His first two bouts were easy technical fall victories before a tighter match in the finals in which he beat Nick Berry of host Baldwin Wallace in a 12-9 decision.

Dillon Stowell followed up that performance with a fifth place finish at 133-lb. After dropping his quarterfinal matchup in the Championship bracket, the senior came back to win two more bouts, earning a chance for third place where he eventually fell to John Shirkey of Thomas Moore College.

Donny McCoy made it to the semifinal round at 141 before falling to the eventual runner-up from Waynesburg College. After moving to the Consolation bracket, McCoy went on to win his next two bouts including the third place match which he won in a hard fought 4-3 decision.

Mongiello had a similar path at 165, as he wrestled his way to the semifinals where he dropped a dual with Oswego's Troy Seymour. He was matched up with another semifinalist in the fifth place match, Alex Miller of Washington and Jefferson, whom he beat to take home fifth.

Triston Engle, who was recently ranked the sixth most dominant wrestler in NCAA Division III, put on another impressive performance. After earning the two seed and two byes, the sophomore earned two wins by fall in 1:08 and 1:11 to put him in the finals where he fell to Riley Lefever of Wabash.

The wrestling team will have one more outing in the form of the University of Scranton duals at home next weekend before gearing up for the Mideast Regionals in York, Pa. beginning February 25.
