LYCOMING, Pa. – After day two of the NCAA Mideast Rergionals, The College at Brockport Wrestling team secured three berths into the NCAA Nationals after Asher Kramer and Eric Velez placed second at the Mideast Regionals and Jeff Palmeri battled his way back to a third place finish earning a bid as well on Sunday at Lycoming College.
Overall seven of Brockport's wrestlers placed during the national qualifying round helping the Golden Eagles to a third place finish overall as a team with 104 points. Messiah was first with 139 points with Baldwin Wallace taking second edging Brockport, scoring 109.5 points. A third place finish or better is required to earn a trip to Cedar Rapids, IA at the NCAA National Championships.
125-lb
Asher Kramer first defeated John Carrol's Mitch Tikkanen by a major decision 13-1 victory. In his final match of day one, Kramer earned a semifinal match by pinning Michael Fleck at the 6:10 mark sending him to the semifinals. He earned a shot at the Mideast Championship by scoring a sudden victory 4-2 win over Nick Mancini of Mount Union. With the victory Kramer assured himself a trip to Iowa for the National Championships. He fell in the second round at 3:18 in the title match.
133-lb
Eric Velez scored two victories by decision, first beating Toby Warrington 9-2 before defeating highly touted Alec Cotton by a score of 5-0. In his first match of day two during the semifinals, Velez pinned his opponent Ryan Hornack of Heidelberg in just 17 seconds into the second period. He ensured himself a trip to nationals as well with the semifinal victory. He dropped a close 4-1 decision to York's Ryan Flynn.
184-lb
Jeff Palmeri did not receive an opening round bye in the championship round. But he defeated his first opponent during the second round pinning him in 4:01. He then scored a tech fall 17-1 score during the second period. Palmeri fell at 4:03 in the second period, putting him in dangerous territory as he was placed in the consolation bracket.
Palmeri won three straight matches scoring 7-2, 16-4 and 10-3 victories which earned him a chance at the national qualifying third place finish. He wasted little time in the third place match pinning Baldwin Wallace's Ben Lebrun in the first period at 1:55.
Sean O'Hagan, Jordan Dyer, Michael Falcon and Cole Tristram were the four other Golden Eagles to place during the Mideast Regionals.
141-lb
Sean O'Hagan cruised through day one as he defeated John Connick from John Carrol University, pinning him in the second period at a time of 4:04. He followed the victory by fall with a 9-4 decision over Elizabethtown's Michael Lammer. He lost in the quarterfinals before pinning his opponent in the consolation quarterfinal bracket. He dropped an 11-4 decision in the third place match, taking fourth overall.
149-lb
Jordan Dyer had an interesting path to a fourth place finish. He received a bye which sent into the championship bracket quarterfinal on Saturday. He lost 18-7 in a major decision. Dyer rallied together three straight victories in the consolation bracket to earn a shot at third place. First by disqualification, second by a 6-4 decision and then a 4:41 pin. He narrowly missed a national qualifying victory as he dropped a 3-1 decision.
165-lb
All of Michael Falcon's matches were extremely close. He narrowly defeated John Carrol's Jordan Victor by a 3-1 score in his first match. He scored another 3-1 decision victory in the quarterfinal, but dropped his semifinal match. Falcon scored a single point 3-2 decision in the consolation semis before settling for fourth place after a 3-0 decision.
285-lb
Cole Tristram took little time to make his presence felt as he pinned his first opponent in the first period at 2:28. He scored a 6-2 decision in the quarterfinal before suffering a loss in the semis. He dropped a narrow 5-4 decision in the consolation semis before settling for sixth place with a medical forfeit in his next scheduled match.
157-lb
Josh Brabon achieved a victory by fall over Mark Carosella, pinning his opponent in the third round at the 6:00 mark before two straight losses eliminating him from contention.
174-lb
James Schreck fell in a major decision after an opening bye in the championship round. Schreck scored a tech fall 17-0 win during his first match in the consolation bracket before finishing on the wrong side of an 8-4 decision.
