The College at Brockport Defensive unit has been named the National Division III Defense of the Week according to beyondsportsnetwork.com as announced in its weekly release with award-winning performances from across the country at all levels of college football.
The Golden Eagles limited Lycoming to just two points (coming on a defensive extra point) in a 30-2 season opening victory Saturday. Lycoming managed just 221 yards of offense and Brockport caused two turnovers in the contest – both interceptions.
The defensive starters include defensive linemen Camden Palmeter (Oneonta, NY/Oneonta), BJ Connolly (Bellport, NY/Bellport) and Tarik Bennett (Mt. Vernon, NY/Mt. St. Michael), linebackers Lincoln Jacobs (Brooklyn, NY/Grand Street), Joe Riley (Ossining, NY/Ossining), Jake Brickler (Hilton, NY/Hilton) and Johnny O'Hagan (Pearl River, NY/Pearl River) as well as defensive backs Jesse Galvin (Leicester, NY/York), Anthony Bianchi (Rochester, NY/Aquinas), Ross Ragonesi (East Northport, NY/Northport) and Colby Morabito (Rochester, NY/Hilton).
O'Hagan led the unit with nine tackles, Bennett had two quarterback sacks while Galvin and Kyle Carman (Wayland, NY/Wayland-Cohocton) recorded the two interceptions. Carman also had two pass breakups and forced a fumble.
