The College at Brockport Department of Intercollegiate Athletics has converted the grass surface of Bob Boozer Field at Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium to turf.
Construction on the project began the last week of May, with an expected completion date of September 20. The field will feature state of the art synthetic turf and lights. The project also includes plans for a reconditioned and expanded track surface as well as a reconstructed and reconfigured throwing area adjacent to the stadium.
"With the addition of a turf field our true commitment to Golden Eagle athletics will be on full display," said Brockport Athletic Director Erick Hart. "I am excited to take this step into the future and showcase our entire athletic department."
The Brockport football team, along with the men's lacrosse team and the track and field teams currently participate on Bob Boozer field at the stadium. The field hockey team will move its home games and practices to the turf field as well in the fall. The stadium seats 11,000 spectators, one of the largest on-campus facilities in all of Division III. The stadium went through renovations in 1998 and was renamed from Special Olympics Stadium to Eunice Kennedy Shriver Stadium in 2010. The original stadium was constructed in 1979 for the International Special Olympic Games.
The Golden Eagles will host its annual homecoming game at 6:00 pm Sept. 28 against Alfred with the first-ever night football game at Brockport.
