Two wrestlers from The College at Brockport have earned weekly awards from the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference (ECWC). Junior
John Wilkinson (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) has been named the ECWC Wrestler of the Week while
Jordan Dyer (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) has been selected as the ECWC Rookie of the Week.
Competing against Oswego in a dual meet, the No. 1 seed Wilkinson scored a 4-2 sudden victory in the heavyweight match. Taking on Jake DeBuyser, both wrestlers battled to a 1-1 tie in regulation. The two competitors each recorded one point in the overtime periods but Wilkinson scored two points with a takedown in the fourth and final overtime to take the victory as Brockport defeated the Lakers 41-5.
On Saturday at the Messiah Open, Wilkinson recorded a pair of major decision victories in the first two rounds of the meet. The junior scored a 5-0 decision in the semifinals before taking the heavyweight title with a 7-4 victory in the championship round. Wilkinson has won 15 consecutive matches and is currently 17-2 overall. The junior is ranked 9th in the most recent National Wrestling Coaches Association Division III rankings.
Dyer earns his third rookie of the week honors and second consecutive award. The freshman recorded a pin in just 52 seconds in the 141-pound bout against Oswego on Wednesday night. At the Messiah Open, Dyer scored two straight decisions to advance to the semifinal round. Dyer fell to the No. 2 seed but claimed a 9-0 major decision to secure third place.
Dyer leads the Golden Eagles with 23 wins on the year, sporting a 23-9 overall record, including a 16-1 mark against Division III opponents. The rookie was won 14 of his last 15 matches.
Brockport will travel to RIT to take on the Tigers in a dual meet on Jan. 30 at 7:00 pm.
