John Wilkinson Wins Title at Messiah Open

Golden Eagles finish with 11 place finishers

John Wilkinson won the 285-pound title at the Messiah Open
Junior John Wilkinson (West Babylon, NY/West Babylon) recorded a pair of major decision victories en route to the championship title in the heavyweight bracket at the Messiah Open Saturday afternoon at Messiah College in Grantham, PA as The College at Brockport Wrestling team finished the open tournament with an impressive 11 place finishers.

Wilkinson led the Golden Eagles as he recorded a pair of major decisions in his first two bouts with a 13-1 decision and a 10-0 win before scoring a 5-0 decision in the semifinals and a 7-4 victory in the title bout.

At 184 pounds, sophomore Jon Casper (LeRoy, NY/LeRoy) won a pair of decisions and took second place in his weight division while teammate Sebastian Randazzo (Syosset, NY/Syosset) wrestled his way through the consolation bracket to finish fifth overall at 184.

Three Golden Eagles captured third place finishes as freshmen Jordan Dyer (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) took the top consolation position at 141 pounds and Cole Tristram (Newton Falls, NY/Clifton-Fine) was third at 197 pounds and senior Clay Neivert (Ossining, NY/Ossining) was the third place finisher at 174 pounds as he registered four falls including pins in 50 seconds, 30 seconds and 1:04. His fourth pin came with four seconds remaining in the second period. Tristram pinned his opponent in 2:22 of the consolation championship bout.

Senior Eliah Golding (Albany, NY/Colonie) was fourth at 149 pounds and sophomore Kevin O'Hagan (Lake Ronkonkoma, NY/Sachem North) was fourth in the 125-pound bracket. O'Hagan pinned his opponent in the opener while Golding had a solid day with three decision victories.

Rounding out the place finishers for Brockport included a pair of fifth place finishes as James McCabe (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) took fifth at 133 pounds and freshman Matthew Lashway (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) was fifth at 197 pounds. Lashway pinned his first opponent in 2:00. Joe DelConte (Frankfort, NY/Frankfort-Schuyler) took sixth at 149 pounds to cap the impressive day for the Golden Eagles.
