The College at Brockport Wrestling team fell behind early and despite winning the final four bouts dropped a 22-18 dual to Steven Tech in the championship match of the American College Division at the Virginia Duals Saturday night at the Hampton Convention Center in Hampton, Virginia.
Brockport (3-1) dropped the first two bouts of the match and trailed 9-0 before freshman
Jordan Dyer (Chenango Forks, NY/Chenango Forks) posted a major decision victory with a 10-2 win to cut the lead to 9-4.
At 149 pounds, senior
Eliah Golding (Albany, NY/Colonie) was trailing late in the bout before he was disqualified giving Stevens a crucial six points and a team point was deducted from the Golden Eagles for a 15-3 Stevens advantage. The Ducks posted a close 7-5 decision at 157 and won a major decision victory at 165 before Brockport battled back to win the final four bouts.
Brockport scored a pin at 174 as
Nick Joy downed his opponent in 2:25 of the first period before
Richie Childs (Hamlin, NY/Brockport) won an 8-4 decision,
Matthew Lashway (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) won a 9-6 decision and junior
Pat Krenz (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) won an exciting 3-1 decision with a takedown in the closing seconds of the third period for the final score.
In the semifinals against Nassau CC, Brockport posted a 25-9 win by opening the match with three consecutive victories as junior
Tyler Marlow (Palmyra, NY/Palmyra-Macedon) won an 8-4 decision at 125, fellow junior
James McCabe (Ronkonkoma, NY/Connetquot) was a 4-1 decision winner at 133 and Dyer recorded a major decision with a 10-2 victory at 141.
Brockport added a decision victory with a 7-4 win by
Josh Halladay (Chenango Forks, NY/Johnson City) at 157 and took a commanding lead in the match as freshman
Aaron Dudley (Hudson Falls, NY/Hudson Falls) recorded a pin in 5:51 in the 165-pound bout giving the Golden Eagles a 19-3 lead.
Voorhis was a 9-7 winner at 184 and Lashway won a high-scoring 13-11 decision at 197 to close out the scoring for Brockport.
