For the 15th consecutive year, The College at Brockport will team up with Oklahoma University for the annual Brockport/ Oklahoma Invitational Wrestling Tournament. The six-team tournament will be held in the Special Events Recreation Center (SERC) Saturday, November 9 with wrestling beginning at 10 am.
Joining the Golden Eagles and the Sooners from The University of Oklahoma will be The United States Military Academy (Army), American University, Bloomsburg University and The University of Buffalo.
Along with Brockport, the tournament consists of five Division I opponents, two of which are ranked among the top-30 in the preseason national rankings according to WIN Magazine. The University of Oklahoma is ranked No. 5 in the list while Bloomsburg comes in at 29th, American is ranked #47 and Buffalo is tied with Army at #57. Oklahoma has won the tournament all 14 seasons.
Eleven wrestlers expected to compete in the 2013 tournament appear in the Win Magazine individual preseason rankings. Oklahoma has six wrestlers in the rankings including Kendric Maple who is the top ranked wrestler in the country at 149 pounds. Other ranked wrestlers include Jarrod Paterson (125), Cody Brewer (133), Nick Lester (157), Andrew Howe who won the National Championship in 2010 (174) and Travis Rutt (197) from Oklahoma. Bloomsburg sports Section V product Josh Veltre (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (165), Richard Perry (197) and Justin Grant (HWT) in the national rankings while Paul Hancock is ranked at 165 pounds for Army and heavyweight Blake Herrin from American is ranked as well.
Ticket prices for the event at $8 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and non-Brockport students, Brockport students/faculty and staff are admitted free with ID. Groups that would like a special discounted rate should contact Assistant Athletic Director
