Brockport Announces End of Year Awards

The athlete and scholar athletes of the year have been announced

Brockport announces the 2012 Athletes of the Year
The College at Brockport Athletic Department has announced the male and female athletes and scholar athletes of the year awards. Senior James Cody (Schwenksville, PA) of the men's ice hockey team and junior Elizabeth Levy (Glen Allen, VA/Hermitage) of the national champion women's gymnastics team have been named The College at Brockport Male and Female Athletes of the year. Senior Brian Duffy (Hilton NY/Hilton) of the men's soccer team and senior Erin Asquith (Arcade, NY/Pioneer) of the women's soccer team have been named The College at Brockport Male and Female Scholar Athletes of the Year.

Cody is the first-ever Brockport player to win the SUNYAC Player of the Year award. He was voted to the All-SUNYAC First-Team for the second consecutive year after leading the conference with 19 goals and his 34 points were fourth-best. Cody was named a Second-Team All-American by the AHCA, the first Brockport icer to earn All-American honors. He was also selected SUNYAC Player of the Week on December. 12.

The senior eclipsed the 100-point mark for his career with the game-winning assist to upset No.5 Elmira in overtime. Cody finished his career with 116 career points as a Golden Eagles. Cody led Brockport in goals all four years on the team and led in points for three of his four seasons.

Levy is the fifth gymnast in the last six seasons, and fourth straight to be named Brockport Female Athlete of the Year.

The junior won the NCGA individual National Championship in the All-Around with a score of 37.650 to earn All-American honors. Levy was also named All-American on the balance beam and uneven bars as Brockport was declared National Champions.

Levy finished second at the ECAC Championships in the All-Around with a score of 37.750 and helped set the Brockport school record for highest team score by posting a career-best 38.475 in the All-Around which was the fifth best score in school history. She also scored a career-high 9.75 on the floor exercise and a 9.725 on the beam, the third highest score in school history. Levy was named ECAC Athlete of the Week after helping Brockport upset the No. 1 nationally ranked Cortland Red Dragons on March 25.

Asquith is a Physical Education and Health major and maintained a 3.99 GPA over the year. The senior was named the 2012 Outstanding Major of the Year by the National Association for Sports and Physical Education (NASPE). On April 13, Asquith was named the Outstanding Undergraduate Student of the School of Health and Human Performance at The College of Brockport. She was also named to the 2011 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) College Division Women's Scholar All-East Region Third-Team and to the Capital One Division III District III All-Academic Team. Asquith was placed on the SUNYAC All-Academic team and the SUNYAC Commissioner's List.

The senior is president of the Phi Epsilon Kappa Honor Society and was captain of the women's soccer team as well.

On the field, Asquith was named Third-Team All-SUNYAC after starting all 19 games this season and logging 1709:34 of action in net. Asquith posted a 1.05 goals against average and an .813 save percentage to go along with six shutouts.

Duffy posted a 3.97 GPA and was named to the SUNYAC All-Academic Team and to the SUNYAC Commissioner's List. The senior was named the 2011 Fred Holloway Award winner by the SUNYAC which is give to the student-athlete with the highest GPA on either the first or second All-SUNYAC team. Duffy received the 2012 Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence and the 2012 Chancellor' Scholar-Athlete Award.

Duffy was named First-Team All-SUNYAC for his play on the field for the Golden Eagles. The senior was also named Second-Team All-Region and to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate First-Team after leading Brockport with seven goals and 15 assists while advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Duffy scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Manhattanville in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

The Athlete and Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were determined after compiling votes from each of Brockport's varsity coaches, as well as the Athletic Communications staff and select athletic administrators.
