Men's Lax Falls in Double Overtime

Golden Eagles can't hold on against second-place Plattsburgh

The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference game in double overtime to the Plattsburgh Cardinals on Saturday, 10-9. Junior Jesse Elliott (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored three goals, including two in the first period to pace the Brockport offense.

Brockport jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the second-place Cardinals after one period as Elliott netted his SUNYAC-leading 32nd and 33rd goals of the year just 2:44 apart from eachother. Plattsburgh battled back but the Golden Eagles maintained a two goal lead at halftime, leading 6-4.  Brockport held the lead until Plattsburgh tied the game up with 2:45 remaining in regulation. Both teams went scoreless in the first overtime session but Tommy Kilderry scored with 2:54 left in double overtime to take the victory for Plattsburgh.

The game opened up with a goal by Elliot on an assist by Nate Thomas (Cortland, NY/Cortland) at the 5:48 mark of the first period. Thomas then scored a goal 1:23 later to put Brockport up early. Elliott's second goal came at the 3:04 mark to put Brockport up 3-0 against a team that was allowing just eight goals a game entering the day.

 With just 24 seconds remaining in the first period, Brad Weber (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) put Brockport up 4-1 on an unassisted goal. Thomas won the ensuing face off and found Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) five seconds later for his 24th goal of the year.

Plattsburgh scored the first three goals of the second period to cut Brockport's lead to 5-4, but Austin netted his second score on an assist from Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) with 2:38 left in the half.

The two teams traded goals throughout the third period as Brockport held an 8-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Thomas and Elliott both scored on unassisted goals in the third. Bryon Palmer (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City) scored his 10th goal of the year 1:32 into the fourth. After Plattsburgh brought the game to within one, the two teams battled over the next eight minutes until the Cardinals finally tied the game at nine.

Brockport limited the Cardinals to just one shot in the first overtime period. Elliott fired a shot on net with 18 seconds remaining but was saved. The Cardinals won the opening faceoff in the second overtime and controlled possession until Kilderry took the first shot of the extra session for the final goal of the game.

Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) played all 65:06 of action and stopped 16 shots on the day, his second most of the season, as Brockport was outshot 55-23 on the day.
