Junior Kaila Maguire (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) recorded five points as The College at Brockport Women's Lacrosse team defeated Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 18-9 Thursday evening in the team's second game of their spring training trip in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Maguire scored four goals on four shots and had one assist as the Golden Eagles defeated CMS, a 2011 NCAA Tournament team. Sarah Brown (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) also had a perfect day as she scored three goals on three shots. Brown also had one assist on the day.

Head coach Stephen Wagner credited the defense with a solid performance on the day. CMS has one of the best scorers in all of Division III lacrosse in Madi Shove who came into the game averaging five goals a game. The Golden Eagles limited Shove to just one shot, and that came while CMS was on a man-up advantage. “Our defense” said Wagner “was really able to shut them down. Madi Shove has 40 goals in eight games and we limited her to one shot.”

The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the game and held a comfortable 15-4 lead at halftime. Wagner also applauded the work of the midfield and attack game. “Our attack really clicked on all cylinders tonight.” Brockport is averaging 17 goals a game in their first two games this season, both wins.

Freshman Hannah O'Connor (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) finished the game with nine saves in net for Brockport. O'Connor is playing in just her second career game as a goalie.

The Golden Eagles finish up their spring training trip with a contest against St. Lawrence Friday at 11:00 am.
