Chris Austin (Middlessex, NY/Naples), and freshman
Marcy Merritt (Sherwood, WI/ Kaukauna) have all been named State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) athletes of the week for their respective sport.
Ferrara has been named SUNYAC Indoor Field Male Athlete of the Week, the second time he has been selected this season. Competing at Hamilton College, Ferrara broke his own school record in the pole vault event and set a new conference record with a height of 16 ft. 3 ¼ inches (4.96 meters). Ferrara set the school record during the previous week at 15 ft. 11 inches. At Hamilton, Ferrara finished almost three feet ahead of the second place finisher. His current height ranks third in the nation.
Austin has been named the SUNYAC Male Diver of the Week. Austin broke a school record as well for the men's diving team at the Oswego Diving Invitational. Competing on the 3-meter board, Austin scored a 482.15 to break the previous record of 470.20 set in 2010 and Austin's previous career-best 411.00. The score earned him a first-place finish. Austin also scored a 442.15 on the 1-meter board to finish in second in the event. Both marks were NCAA qualifying scores as well.
Merritt has been selected as the Female Diver of the Week. Merritt, a freshman from Wisconsin, had her best day by far as a Golden Eagle for the women's diving team at the Oswego Diving Invitational. The freshman set career-highs on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Merritt's first-place score of 381.35 on the 3-meter board topped her previous high of 196.60. Her 1-meter score of 349.65 was good enough for second place at the Invite.
