Men's Lax Drops Season Opener

Brockport falls to Morrisville 10-8

Junior Jesse Elliot (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored five goals for The College at Brockport Men's Lacrosse team in the season opener but the Golden Eagles fell to Morrisvile 10-8 on Saturday.

The Mustangs scored three goals in the first and fourth periods to stay ahead of Brockport. The Golden Eagles controlled nearly every offensive category including shots. Brockport outshot Morrisville 40-27 and had 14 shots in the fourth period alone. The Golden Eagles also held a 38-18 advantage in ground balls and won 16 of 22 faceoffs.

Elliot put Brockport on the board with 8:16 remaining in the first period to cut the Golden Eagles deficit to 2-1. Morrisville built a 4-1 lead in the second period until Elliot (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling) scored his second goal of the game. Just over a minute later, Alex Austin (Rochester, NY/Trinity-Pawling) assisted on Elliot's third goal of the game as Brockport took advantage of the extra-man opportunity and trailed by just one. After another goal by Morrisville, Elliot found the back of the net for the fourth time of the game with just 30 seconds left in the second period as Brockport went into halftime trailing 5-4.

Brockport wasted no time scoring to open the second half as Austin found Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) on a man-up advantage one minute into the period to tie the score at five. Morrisville scored the next two goals as Brockport went scoreless for the remainder of the period.

Riley Austin (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) started the scoring in the fourth period with a man-down goal on an assist from Andon-Mclane. The Mustangs responded with two goals in one minute to pull away. Elliot scored his final goal of the game at the 8:47 mark on an assist from Riley Austin. Trailing 10-7, Clifton Jackson (Snyder, NY/Amherst) scored on an assist from Alex Austin, but the Golden Eagles scoring ended there.

Brockport goalie Cory Banwaree (Port Jefferson Station, NY/Comsewogue) was credited with 10 saves on the day.
