Brockport Defeats Div. II West Chester

Golden Eagles take the top five spots in floor exercise

RESULTS

Junior Taryn Kateridge (Medford, NY/Patchogue-Medford) scored a 9.625 on the floor exercise leading The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to a 186.000-181.525 victory over Division II West Chester University Saturday afternoon at the Tuttle North Gymnastics Center in Brockport.
 
Kateridge won the event and the next four spots were also filled by Golden Eagles. Taylor Wierzba (Hamburg, NY/Hamburg) was second with a 9.6 followed by freshman Amanda Carney (Walpole, MA/Walpole), senior Kileigh Chapman (Gansevoort, NY/South Glens Falls) and junior Elizabeth Levy (Glen Allen, PA/Hermitage) who each score 9.525 in the event for Brockport (3-2).
 
Brockport won all four events with a high score of 47.800 on the floor.
 
“I was happy at the way we bounced back today,” said head coach John Feeney. “We had a rough start on the uneven bars and later put together an unbelievable score on the floor.”
 
Sophomore Gabrielle Pettito (Seldon, NY/Newfield) won the vault with a personal best score of 9.475 and Levy was second with a 9.45. Carney tied for fourth with a 9.375.
 
Chapman won the bars with a 9.35 and Levy was second at 9.25. Freshman Natalie Manga (Fresh Meadows, NY/Benjamin N. Cardozo) was tied for fourth with a 9.1.
 
West Chester (5-1) won the balance beam individual title but Brockport finished with the next five spots led by senior Colleen Chahbazi (Flushing, MI/Flushing) and junior Kelcie Morris (Hagerstown, MD/Smithsburg) each scoring a 9.35, sophomore Heidi Beckerich (Indianapolis, IN/Bishop Chatard) scoring a 9.3, Wierzba adding a 9.2 and Levy posting a 9.125.
