Women's Hoops Falls at Wendy's Classic

Golden Eagles fall to Nazareth for fourth time in five years at tournament

Freshman guard Phoebe Byrnes (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) scored ten points for her highest total in her young career but The College at Brockport Women's Basketball team fell to Nazareth College 64-35 in the consolation round of the 19th annual Wendy's Women's College Classic. Brockport will face the loser of the St. John Fisher/Geneseo matchup at 1 pm Saturday at William Smith College.

Byrnes scored all 10 of her points in the second half, including two three-point shots. Juniors Ellen Story (Catskill, NY/Catskill) and LaDonya Rolle (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) both finished with eight points and a team and season-high seven rebounds. Brockport forced 17 Golden Flyers turnovers.

The Golden Eagles, facing Nazareth in the Wendy's Classic for the 11th time in 16 years of participation, fell behind early in the first half as Brockport went into halftime trailing 34-7. The Golden Eagles cut down on the deficit in the second half, as Nazareth outscored Brockport 30-28 in the second stanza.
