Senior guard Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) set a career milestone as The College at Brockport marked off their first victory of the season in the first round of the 46th Annual Wendy's College Classic against Roberts Wesleyan College, 79-68. The Golden Eagles advance to the second round where they will face Hobart College at 6 pm Friday at RIT.

Williams lead the way with 22 points to join the exclusive 1,000 point club at Brockport. Coming into the game, the senior needed just eight points to surpass the mark. Williams sank a three-point shot at the 4:46 mark to become the 21st member of the club. The shot by Williams started a 13-0 run by the Golden Eagles to pull ahead of the Raiders as Brockport entered halftime with a comfortable 45-32 lead. Williams finished the game shooting 6-9 from the field and 8-9 from the free-throw line and contributed three steals.

The Golden Eagles continued to carry a heavy lead into the second half sparked by Kyheem Green (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) and Donnell Jackson (Rochester, NY/Edison). Both players controlled the glass throughout the game, both offensively and defensively. Green finished with 18 points and a team-high 18 rebounds, including six offensive. Jackson also poured in a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

The Raiders chipped away at the lead midway through the second half and eventually brought the game to as close as six. Head coach Greg Dunne insisted free-throws were the key to holding off a comeback. “We played very well for 30 minutes of this game” said Dunne. “After a short lapse, our team buckled down defensively and we hit our free-throws down the stretch.” In the last five minutes of the game, the Golden Eagles sank nine of 12 free throws to seal the victory.

Williams moves into a tie for 19th all-time on the Brockport career-scoring list at 1,014 with Kevin Korzeniewski. “I'm excited for both the accomplishment and our team's first win” said Williams. “There are very few people in the club. It's an honor and a privilege, not just for the record but to be a part of it with my teammates and coaches.” He needs just 11 points to move into 17 place.

Dunne added about Williams, “There's been a long history of Brockport Basketball, there aren't a lot of guys to get to the 1,000 point club, but Gerald deserved it.”

Earlier in the night, the University of Rochester defeated the Geneseo Blue Knights to advance to the second round where they will face Nazareth, who defeated RIT. The two teams will square off on Friday at 8pm at RIT while Geneseo and RIT will face each other in the consolation round at St. John Fisher on Friday at 6 pm. As for Roberts Wesleyan, they will face St. John Fisher at 8 pm on Friday at Fisher.
