Women's Soccer Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure set for Saturday

Brockport to face Nazareth in second annual charity game

When longtime womens soccer rivals the College at Brockport and Nazareth College square off in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon, more than just regional bragging rights will be on the line.

For the second straight year, Brockport and Nazareth will meet in the annual Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure, a collaborative effort between the two schools with Golden nicknames to raise money for breast cancer awareness.

The visiting Golden Eagles will don specially-designed black Nike uniforms with pink numbers while the host Golden Flyers will sport pink jerseys as part of the fundraiser. The jerseys are provided by The Soccer Shack in Brighton.

All proceeds collected through admission, t-shirt sales and concessions, along with a suggested $5 donation at the gate, will go towards the Comprehensive Breast Cancer Care Division of the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

During the game, specially designed pink t-shirts will also be sold to raise money for breast cancer research.

Brockport hosted the first Golden Challenge for a Pink Cure, in 2009, with the two schools raising $2,326.31 for the cancer research.
The Golden Eagles (3-1) have won three straight since a season-opening loss to the University of Rochester, and will look to improve upon their 12-14-3 record versus Nazareth in the all-time series, which dates to 1983.

The game will also feature sisters competing on opposite sidelines; Sophomore Courtney Belding (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) is a starting defender for Brockport while sophomore Christine Belding (Rochester, NY/Gates Chili) plays forward for Nazareth.
